Costume Play Inspired by Manga and Anime, in Kjeld Duits’ Photography
Japanese pop culture is very popular nowadays all over the world. Manga and anime conferences are held frequently in Japan, drawing fans dressed as fictional characters from these media. In such gatherings, fans create performance art known as “cosplay” (costume play) and it is particularly popular with adults and adolescents. Favorite sources of inspiration include video games, science fiction, literature, action films, music bands appearing in comics, animation, and television series. The exhibition presents the art of the Japanese cosplay in the photographs of the photojournalist Kjeld Duits.
