Women in Japanese Art

The exhibition presents women in Japanese art in order to examine the many ways in which art dominated by men contributed to the concept of women and their role in society. A study of works depicting women revealed that most of the artists were not interested in the specific female physiognomy, their intention being to idealize the profession in which they were engaged and regulated in feudal Japan.
