Tikotin Museum of Japanese Art
Much attention is paid in Japanese culture to aesthetic aspects of the weather, which is not simply accepted as a phenomenon of nature that influences human behaviour. Snow is an embodiment of temporality, and hence is frequently depicted in Japanese art. Snow changes the landscape in winter and vanishes in spring leaving no trace. In Japanese poetry a parallel is drawn between the transience of the snow and the life of man. Snow thus becomes an aesthetic dimension helping us to accept the transience of life.
